"Skin top" wig is a wig that has a latex cap at the top. This type is strongly recommended, if you can afford it and if you have skin the color of flesh tone latex. If you want a style that parts, skin top is almost required for a natural look. It allows for a change in parting the hair.
Some wigs have only partial skin top texture and others are full skin tops that allow hair to be parted anywhere.
Almost all brands offer a selection of skin top wigs.
Janet Collection, for example, offers more than 20 different skin top wigs: short, long, medium length, human hair or synthetic. Here are several examples:
Cleopatra wig, Patricia wig, Mono Sandy wig.
Motown tress, a manufacturer of wigs, also offers lace wigs with mono skin top which present the best hairline ever. It makes the hair look like it is coming from your own scalp-very realistic and also comfortable for parting.

Monofilament wig advantages
Here is all the information one needs to know about Monofilament wigs:
- Monofilament wig is a wig style that looks most naturally and allows the most movement of hair.
- Monofilament is where one strand of fiber is knotted alone on a very fine single layer of mesh, which allows the natural skin tone to appear through it. It is both water and air permeable for complete comfort.
- It allows movement of the hair and is more comfortable to wear. Some wigs/hairpieces state "mono crown" or "part". This means that the parting or crown area of the wig is the only area that is monofilament.
- The monofilament construction is comfort enhanced by a special weaving technique, which results in excellent ventilation. It also has the ability to match your own individual scalp colour.
- One can even order personalized Monofilament wig.
- Because the hairs on Monofilament wigs are hand-tied, those wigs can be a lot more expensive than regular wigs.
In conclusion, Mono wigs present the most comfortable, most natural looking, longer lasting product.

- Always use styling products especially created for wigs. Using regular shampoos or conditioners might actually damage the hair wig or have undesired effects. If you have purchased a synthetic wig, you can find styling products for synthetic hair.
- Wash your wig in a sink filled with cool water and not on your head. Agitate gently after adding the wig shampoo. Then rinse gently with cool water. Do not rub or squeeze the wig.
- Do not comb wig while wet.
- Let wig dry on a wig stand. Using blow drier is not recommended.
- Store your wig on a wig stand to preserve its style.
- Do not use curling iron on synthetic hair wig, unless the synthetic fiber is heat resistant, like Futura synthetic wigs for example. Most heat resistant synthetic hair would only sustain up to 350 degrees of heat. So when wearing regular synthetic wig, stay away from the grill or open oven.
- Use special wig comb or wig brush.
- If you purchased human hair wig, you may use curling irons, dies and colors.
- To prolong the life of a wig, wear a nylon wig cap- not the open net type. The nylon wig cap will help keep oils off the wig webbing and extend the life.
- When combing hair wig start your way from the bottom out. It often more comfortable to sit on the floor and place your wig on your knee and then gently comb the lower ends as you are holding the top of the wig. If hair is severely tangled use special conditioner or detangling spray.

Do wigs come in different sizes?
Customers are often afraid to buy wigs online fearing the product may not fit. How would one know if a wig would fit their shape and size of head?
Some wig brands do come in different sizes: mini-petite, petite, average, large, extra large. You can find the measures of all these wig sizes at wigshop.com.
Other wigs come in one standard size.
For example, Janet Collection wigs, both human and synthetic, come in only one size, commonly called "one size fits all". However, that does not mean all people share the same shape or size of head.
Fortunately, most wigs come with an adjustable strap that allows you to make the wig tighter or wider.
If you are still not sure whether a wig from Janet Collection will fit your head, here are some helpful measures you can check.
You will need a tape measurer.
Around the Head*- Measure around head. Start at your natural hairline in front. Measure around the back to the bend in your neck, above your other ear, then around front to strating point.
Front to Back**- Measure from your natural hairline in front, back over the crown to where your head meets the top of your neck.
Ear to Ear***- Starting in front of one ear where your hairline ends, bring your tape measure up and over the crown to the front of your other ear.
